TV PC - Wooden PC Case

Ok so here is my 'TVPC' (sorry, 'T.V.P.C') made from an old 'Thorn Colour' wooden tv box. I found it on the side of the road the other night and was lucky enough to flag down a local with a trailer who was kind enough to help me cart it the 2 blocks home.

I'll keep editing this post to add more detail later, just look at the pics for now (oh and its not finished yet... just up and running)

So after being one of the first 10 people to buy a GTX 480 from PC Case Gear for $399 by selling my PS3 (only 50 available, so hurry) I was worried about the heat that 2 480's in sli in my box would create, let alone trying to wedge a GTS 250 in there somewhere for Physx. So I though about making a 90 degree mounted motherboard case!!!

So here are the specs: (for now)

i7 930 OC'd to 4GHz (191x21) HT off
Kingston 2000MHz DDR3 3x2GB trip chan ram @ 1528 with 8-8-8-24 timing
Zalman Ram Fan
Corsair H70 CPU cooler in PUSH-PUSH-PULL fan setup
Enermax 1250w PSU with 180 amps on the +12v rail
Inno3d GTX 480
ATI 4870 - for boinc (milkyway@home)

God damn I love using power tools!!!!

Yes I took apart my stand fan to put in the bottom, but hey temps are looking great with it on setting 1 and really quiet (sounds like its about to take off on high though)

Woo Hoo, it works!!!

So as you can see, I've cut out the holes with a jigsaw and top mounted my psu and motherboard tray cause as we all know from year 7 science HEAT TRAVELS UP!!!! Even the new cases are starting to employ this 90 degree motherboard mounting system, and let me tell you that it really makes a difference!!!!

The cards you can see there are an Inno3d GTX 480 and an ATI 4870

DVD drive with a bracket to hold it up.... (also has my fan controller above it) need to secure these better when I work on it next.

Cable management is SOOOO easy now. Look at how much freakin space I have!!!! The only issue I have is that I didnt think about the distances from the PSU to my hard drives, will have problems when I add more. Ah ill just add more molex to sata power cables to manage.

Oh i'll have to show pics of the back panel once i've worked on it more as there are a few fans on there. Everything is set to intake except the cpu fan and GPU's (of course). This way im trying to create a positive pressure system to FORCE air up and out of the case.

And here she is up and running. I managed to squeeze my Thermaltake Armor + side panel in for the mo but its on an angle and not how ill have it in the end (cant create a positive pressure system with massive gaps). Think ill buy a sheet of perspex to put in there.

This only took me a day, so I'll continue to work on it and add more pics in this post.

480 - 75 C @ 75% fan speed

4870 - 60 C @ 65% fan speed

Ambient air temp during day is 24 C

The other day I went to the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington, London. I'll let wikipedia explain:

Paris was awesome!!! Lots of shopping and fine foods, the weather was great, our hotel rooms were enourmous and everyone was very pleasant wherever we went (I don't get the whole parisian=asshole thing).

Now for St Pauls Cathedral. Can't take pics inside, just once you're out. Also when I was in the whispering gallery i think i scared a woman half to death by whispering a gravely 'Heeeeelllloooooo'. Watched her sit bolt upright and look around in all directions as to where the voice had come from. I guess she hadn't read the brochure yet... he he he.

Greenwich was a real surprise. I knew it was the location of the prime meridian but didn't realise that there was a planetarium and observatory ontop of the hill (makes sense though). Had to catch a ferry out there... didn't get my foot stuck in this one (ha ha grandpa!!!!). Here's the pics:

still in Edinburgh but the weathers only worsened. lots of walking round in the fog and rain today... Still looks awesome, no matter what the conditions. Ill do a full tour of the castle tomorrow before heading back on the overnight bus... Had just a quick look today... Walk up the hill is a killer in the wet!!! I would post all that now but im off to Edinburgh in the next hour so it will have to wait. Didn't make it to st pauls for the audio tour as Greenwich was much too interesting to cut the tour short. Tower of London

This morning I was woken up by Mum as she arrived home late last night from Portugal and I was already in bed. Off to a nice little cafe for some brecky and a coffee, then onto the Tower of London for the day. I had planned to only be there for around two hours, but after doing all the audio tours and a long look at the armor exhibition it was time for me to head back to the apartment. I did something to my ankle on the flight over, so walking around for 7hrs today was more than enough sightseeing. Enough chatter, here are some of my pics from the tower.

Christ... This is one nice place.

After getting back here last night David and I went down to St. Katherine docks and had an awesome feed of Yum-Cha then off to another pub for a final pint and to watch the end of the soccer (Garner vs Uruguay)

The Flight and Doha

Ok so first I have to say that the flight itself wasn't that bad... better by miles than the 25hr bus trip I took from Poland to Rome!!! Qatar has quite a good setup. The first plane was better and bigger than the second, with touch screen players, but the system was the same on both. Managed to wrangle an emergency aisle seat for the first leg so i had plenty of leg room. The second flight was a bit more cramped.

Once I made it to Doha I wasnt even in the terminal before some guy started yelling at me not to take pictures... so here's the photo in question... he he he

Once in and through customs, I was straight off to duty free where i picked up a 5x50gm box of drum tobacco for £9!!!!!! Australian duty free was $69, what a rip off!!!! Thinking about what I can do to bring more back into melbourne as the price is soooooo good.

Yep... this is what Qatar serve as their house whisky. Oh the fools, OH THE FOOLS, MWHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! First thing on the flight I ask for is a scotch and coke and she runs off and brings back a 1lt bottle and starts free pouring me a glass. the damn thing was 1/3 full when she asks me if its enough... no guesses as to what my answer was.

Well its good to see that somethings haven't changed. The tube was a bit of a nightmare to navigate when i was soooo tired (ok and possibly a little tippsy). They decided to park the train in the sun for 20min (yes London has sun right now) between stations just to bake my brain a little on the ride home. Finally made it to the pub where I was to meet David and didn't quite make it through the first pint before he arrived.

Yeah sorry for dropping off the radar but all I had to report on was that I did indeed go to Disneyland Paris for four days, yes I did go mad, then caught the bus back to London. Since getting back all I've really been doing is packing, sorting out my pics (which you can now see on facebook), and creating my all new vid... 'Disneymad'.

Dickheads to Disneyland

On my last full day in Barcelona I went out to Montserrat. What an amazing place to visit. Its about an hour out of barcelona and you have to catch a cable car and a tram car all the way to the top. Now there's some dizzying heights. Im not bad with them, but this even tested me. Esp when I looked down and saw a wreath of old flowers. I then took a few steps back from the edge.

Worst hostel i've ever stayed in. Rambla an Catalunya was shite beyond belief. They put a really smelly French family in with me. Just the son, who had to weigh 110kgs. It was like a strong body odour that smothers you like a pillow, mixed with sour milk that almost forces you to gag.

They also turned away a Korean guy I met the next day telling him there were no more beds... The bunk about me was free!!! Then also checked MORE french into my room at 3am... 3A...god damn...M.

Anyway, made it to Paris. Weathers good as well. I have 5 nights booked here and a 4 day DISNEYLAND PASS!!!! I know it seems over the top but there are two parks to explore and... the best part... it was 4 for the price of 3 days... so what the hell!!!

So im finally out and about for some sightseeing in barcelona. Ill be here for another 3 days and am going to skip madrid as i cant be bothered and everyone i speak to can muster up all but indifference about the place. Doing a 2 day hop on, hop off open top bus tour which so far is ok. Im now at tibidabo, the mountain which overlooks barcelona. About to go to yet another church. Gotta say im surprised with spain. Not the turkish, germans or even french, but the spanish have to take the cake for the worst fucking service in all of europe. They avoid eye contact, walk off on you or tell you to come back later all so they dont have to serve you. When you do get service, its as if youre bothering them on thier lunch break. My hostel has the worst staff ive ever experienced. Rude, unhelpful, liars. Its all everyone in the hostel talks about. They should all be fired. Anyway, at least the weather is great. Barcelona!!!

Yay I made it to barcelona and into my hostel with very little difficulty. This place is soooo central and for only €10 a night is amazing!!! Gotta say though, two days of busses with only about five hours sleep total has caught up with me. Slept for around 11hrs last night and am still a bit groggy today. Don't think I'll do anything touristy today, just try and go to see James bond. Tomorrow I think I'll buy a two day, hop on hop off bus tour, just like the one I did in Paris for my birthday. It's €20 for one day or just €6 more for two. Better value than Paris too.

Had the strangest dream last night. All I'll say is, mum, if you feel like putting a few pounds in a slot machine today... Go for it.

Heard the good news about the house. I bet mum and David are very happy with that, oh and thanks for the statement update mum, I'll hold you to that.

The other good news I heard is that Obama won!!! Now here's hoping he actually lives up to all the white knight hype.

Two weeks to go... and by god i'm going to disney land.

Woh just made this bus. Woke up at 8.05 and had to checkin by 8.30. Good thing i was so close to the station. Yesterday was a bit of a mixed bag. Met an aussie girl named jade when i got into my hostel. She was heading off on a quick sightseeing adventure of an island near by, so i tagged along. Its the count of monte christo island. Weather held out and had a great time. Jade hopped on her bus and i went looking for a cinema in english. Not gunna happen here i thought the french had class, but no, they decide to massacre foreign films with dubbing. Oh and you know how big a fan of that i am. Stopped in a net cafe for 15 min and then it started to teem down raining. Soaking wet i had to walk a long way to get my ticket for today. Pretty pissed off i went back to the hostel. There i met some cool guys, watched some dexter, put vids on my ipod for today, some washing and just chilled. So at least it ended well. Off to barcelona now. Woo Hoo!! Chao, jim.

Ah yes! Another bus. Oh what joy awaits. All that sitting and...Fidgeting! Were meant to get in at around 5am so its even too early to check in. But hey, an adventure it still is. Out again today, like the day before. Done a lot of walking in rome. Ah well, good exercise. Went to about 5 churches yesterday. Damn they know how how to build them impressivly here. Took 300 photos round the city!! Even bought another card for later. Off to the colosseum for a proper look today. Spent about 2 hours there, then another 2 in the ruins around. Only took 180 shots today, ha! Not that i can afford either, but at this stage just buying more memory is the best option. Ive taken 3750 shots so far. Bound to be a good one or two in there somewhere. Off to marseille on monday but might only spend one day there as hostels are about €25 a night. At least barcelona is bound to be cheaper... Right? Still more than enough sightseeing to fill in the next two days even without paying to go in anywhere else. Booked my bus and paid for the remaining nights stay today as well. Today i went sightseeing in Rome. First stop was the vatican museum and the Sistine chapel. I think i spent about 3 hours in there. They even had an egyptian section and some dalih paintings... So very cool! After that i wandered through the city as it teamed down, then hailed too! Bought an umbrella from a guy on the street. Where do those guys come from anyway? It starts raining in any major city and 2 mins later theres an army of indian guys selling umbrellas!?! Cant complain. Visited 3 churches on the way to the colosseum. Made it as the sun was down, so got some great night shots, but will visit properly in the morning. Just relaxing in my room now, about to have a look through the 400+ shots taken today. Night folks. Still on the bus at 9am although it feels more like late afternoon. Having to listen to the worst movie dubbing the world has ever made. ITS JUST ONE FUCKING GUY!! Doing the voices for everyone, with zero emotion. He sounds like hes reading out the ingredience list off a vitamin bottle. Ahhh!!! Finally have 2 seats to myself. For the first 17 hours i was stuck in the back seat, with others, and the cow in front of me put her seat right back... But the back seats dont go back do they... DO THEY!! Sorry, breathe... Ok calm now. Then i had this big fat woman for 2 hours. At least theres a marked rise in temperature already. Might not need two jackets to go out in. Just stopped at palonia, next stop rome! Only another 5 hours to go... Oh then to find my hostel. Looks nice and was the one recommended by julia and heath. Gets any warmer and i will use the pool there. Oh i so need a shower. went for a little walk around town today then off to an Internet cafe to print off my bus pass... He he he. Then I found the bus office and booked a trip to Rome tomorrow for 2pm. No hassles or troubles in booking and in five minutes I was on my way again. The only downside is that the bus is a full 24 hours long. Ahhhhhhh!!! At least I didn't have to pay for it so not much if any complaining can be had by me.

Still a few hours of daylight to go today so I'd better make use of them and continue trecking round the city.
Less than a month to go. Wow how time flys when your having a blast round the globe.

Auschwitz

Met a group of guys and girls last night in the lounge. One of the girls was having her birthday as of 12am so we went out on the town for a bit. Not before I booked a tour to Auschwitz though. The only down side was that I only got about 5 hours sleep (thank god daylight savings kicked in last night or it would have been 4).

Up at 8 am and out to the camp. What exactly can I say that would do it justice. Not a great deal I think. For me it was such a surreal experience, as if a part of me couldn't believe I was actually there. Walking into one of the gas chambers gives you no option but to face the reality of where you are and what took place there. I felt a dark and heavy sense of doom as I entered, quite unlike anything I've felt before.

I guess the day was made even more surreal by the fact that it was such a nice day. I took some good shots out there too, if there is such a thing as a "good shot" of such a place. The bus then drove us back, with almost complete silence. Not even five minutes of discussion amongst the whole group. I'll still need some time to process all I saw. Let you know when I can articulate better.

Tomorrow I'll probably just have a wander round the city, but not before a long sleep in.

hey I made it to krakow and found the hostel. Dizzy daisy... Probably the most silly name so far. From what little I've seen of the city, it looks pretty cool. 10:40pm now so not about to head out tonight. Might do some sightseeing tomorrow and head to Auschwitz the day after.

Happy birthday from Prague

ok so here I am in prague typing away on my new iPod touch. Yes heath you twisted my arm with last nights demonstration. This thing rocks! I would be typing to you from my hostel but the net is down there (just my luck). Now it did cost me 140 euros but when I go through boarder patrols tomorrow I can get my duty free dogs stamped and claim back about 20 euros.

Last night I caught up with julia and Heath as some of you will know. For those who don't, she's my step aunt... Ha that still sounds funny, well I am a year older than her. We met at the castle and had a wander round before heading back to their hostel for a few beers. Dave, you never said your sister was cool!!! Shame on you. Never mind, we had pleanty of time to gossip about you, so I guess that makes up for it a bit... He he he. Do you guys realize it was only the second time us three had met??? And in prague of all places.

Off to krakow tomorrow on a 14:06 train which set me back 35 euros. Good news is that even here in Prague things are much much cheaper than up north. Jewels and Heath even gave me the name of a cheap place to stay in Rome... In ROME!!! That's where I think I'm off to next after Poland.

I also want to send out a big happy birthday to david. I hope you had a great day... Did you go to work or have the day off???

Well that's about all for now, sitting in kfc for the free net, making me hungry though.

Auschwitz in two days, bound to be a happy experience... NOT! Interesting though!

Couldn't get a straight answer out of the staff yesterday about whether I can get a Eurolines bus from Hamburg to Krakow so I tried to book a direct bus there today. Unfortunately its completely booked out so I'm heading to the closest place I can... Prague! Well at least I'm going somewhere I know I like. I've booked a hostel for one night so I'll see when the next bus or train is leaving for Krakow before making any further bookings.

Piss farting around town with all my bags till 7.05pm when my bus leaves. Where's the nearest cinema????

Ok so Charlie Murphy was worth hanging around in Gothenburg for. His show was hell funny and on top of all of that I got to meet him afterwards. I hung around the stage door for a few minutes afterwards and out he came with his crew. I got to shake his hand and have a chat with him before heading off. Then as I walked around the block I saw his van parked at the lights up ahead and couldn't resist shouting out 'CHARLIE MURPHY!!!!' He cracked up laughing, then gave me a wave before they pulled away. Hey, he even talks about Rick James in his show and how much better it is to have his name shouted out everywhere he goes because as he said ''For almost twenty years I've been known only as 'Eddie Murphy's Brother''.

Yesterday I went and bought a PSP, today I took it back. The reason is that I wanted to use its WiFi capability to check my e-mails and post on my blog properly without having to go to an internet cafe and pay through the nose to use whatever piece of shit they are passing off as a pc. Unfortunately when I got it back to the hostel and tried to log onto hotmail it wouldnt work... neither would blogger or you tube, infact about the only thing it could access with any sort of ease was google. As much as I loved playing games on it, I bought it to save on internet cafe fees... so 'Boo Hoo'... I had to return it. The guy at the shop said it will take a few days for the return to go through on my card, but it was from the store 'Game' which are everywhere, so if theres a problem i can chase it up in London.

Wandering the streets today, weathers pretty average so not a whole lot for me to do.

Just checking the online timetables and it looks like I might have been given the wrong info. Im not sure i can get to Krakow from Hamburg after all. I'll have to go check it out at the Eurolines office in a little while. Might have to get the direct bus to Krakow... 21 hours though.... errrrr.

I forgot to mention that i went to see max payne at the cinema yesterday. I only mention this as a warning to all. Do not go and see this film. The games have a better plot, acting and script. The story revolves around his dead wife again, yet lacked the creepy psychological elements that made the game a masterpiece. Heres hoping that they make another game to redeem the name Max Payne. Just chillin today. Went out to a club last night and got home at 5.45am. Drank one beer, then these guys i was talking to went home and left me with 1/4 bottle of vodka and 4 red bulls but i could barely finish one glass so i went home. Im turning into an old man. Well today I went out to go to the amusement park, but they were closed for the season. Finished up on sunday which would have been a nice detail to add from any of the ten people i spoke to about it in the last two days. Was in a bit of a shit mood for a while after that so decided to take a walk in the big park nearby. The weather was a little chilly, but great today. Clear blue skies. The park has a small wildlife section in it which you can wander around for free. They had goats and deer and little fat black pigs that had me in stitches for about five minutes. Then there were the moose. Damn moose are big... all I could think of was rocky and bullwinkle, then sarah palin... how can you shoot such creatures and be proud of it is beyond my reasoning (ugly cow).

Ok, ok ill explain the title of my blog now. On sunday night im going to see CHARLIE MURPHY at the local theatre. Woo Hoo!!!!! Now that cheered me up! While walking round the park there was a poster for his gigs coming up and it just so happened that he's playing here in Gothenburg on the 19th. For those who don't know, yes he is Eddie's brother, but has been a standup comedian for quite some time as well. Most of you (including myself) will really know him from the the Chapelle show especially when he hosted the last few episodes as Dave had issues with comedy central and quit.

Oh, bit tired today but not from what you might think. Yes it was a late one yet not from a heavy night out partying, but rather from staying up to watch the U.S Presidential Debate. It started at 3am and went for an hour and a half AND I had to be up at 9:30am to check out. It was worth it to see just how the last of the debates was to pan out.

McCain seemed to be clutching at straws in order to better Obama. He continued to use 'Joe the plumber' as his main focus for explaining how Obama will negatively affect small business but came off sounding like a broken record, or should I say phonograph with how old he is (Yes nan and grandpa I hear you hollering at me about that last comment, but neither of you are running for president right now are you... at least you haven't told me if that's the case).

Obama seemed calm and dignified as per usual, while McCain continued to make broad sweeping promisses about how he will fix the economy, save the war, create jobs, give health care to all. I was waiting for him to say how he'll cure cancer, get us to mars and prove the existence of God.

McCain also couldn't help but cut in and interupt Obama nearly every time he was responding. I could see John trying to project a sense of energy and vitality in order to seem more compasionate and emotive towards the topics at hand, yet it came off like he was simply trying too hard to score cheap points. McCain looked more like a traveling salesman trying to hock miracle tonics while Obama looked like... well... a president in waiting. His answers were calmly and thoughtfully put. When stating how he though John's plans were flawed and on the wrong path to fixing the U.S economy, there wasn't a hint of maliciousness towards his opponent (something that McCain seemed to exude).

Now don't even get me started on Sarah Palin. Does the world really need a gun toting, ignorant, soccer mum yokel in the number two chair of the white house? Her rallies seem more akin to linch mobs at times while she bats not an eyelid towards the hatefull, racist and threatening calls coming from her audience. Not denouncing such cries immediately gives you a pretty clear cut idea as to where she stands. All she needs to round off her image is to start handing out torches while hoisting a confedrate flag. Yee Haw!!!! *insert gun shot sound effects*

Well enough of that, off to catch my bus to Gothenburg. I didn't get any replies from couch surfers yet, so booked one night in a hostel for only 15 euros. I'll see how things go tomorrow.

Out and about today. Off to Kronberg castle, otherwise known as hamlet castle for its the very same that william based his not too unpopular tale around. Jealous much? Well i know my fellow theasbiens will be. The trip is to take an hour by train, but considering the weather i cant complain. After the boring yet necessary task of buying food supplies it was off to the Eurolines office to see if my newly made pass would do the job. Ding ding ding... we have a winner! My pass was to run out on the 16th (due to them not updating it to the correct date of the 25th) and yet I used my 'special' pass to book a trip to Gothenburg ON the 16th. I've made a second one which has the months changed around too. He he he. Now I know what some of you might be thinking... 'Oh thats immoral and illegal' well just how immoral is it to leave a lone backpacker stranded and try to screw him out of 9 days of his pass. So far all I've done is claim back what I paid for. The retribution comes after the 25th of Oct when I continue to travel on my 'Pass'.

Then it was off for a wander round the city. I walked all the way out to Frederiksberg Park where I fed geese and took a lot of shots. The sun was out for most of the day so I hope I got some good photos in.

Resting after a long walk by sitting here surfing and watching the latest 'Dexter' episode. Hey its cheaper than going to see yet another movie! Not that there's much more I want to see until Bond comes out. Nov 6th is about the date i'll be able to see it, depending on where the hell I am then.

In The Big Smoke!

Made my way into the city today and checked into my hostel then hit the town with camera in hand. Thankfully the map I found had a free walking tour which took me about five hours to complete. Copenhagen is one pretty place, I hope the weather is nicer tomorrow (didnt rain, but was cold and gloomy). The net says YES!!!!

After exhausting myself walking round town I went to see "Burn After Reading" at the cinema. Now thats a strange movie I must say. Fantastic performances all round but I guess all I can say about the plot is... quirky!?!?! Worth seeing though.

Would you believe it... I walk into the kitchen of my hostel and who do I see but Richie. Well ok most of you dont know who the hell Im talking about, but he was one of the people I met on the boat in Turkey. I knew he lived in Copenhagen at a hostel, but the odds of running into him are a million to one. He busks for a living here and has a show on tomorrow night up in the lobby, so Ill at least have something to do for the night.

Carnival!!!! There's a halloween carnival on in the center of the city. Weighing up weather the 30 euro's is worth spending the day there. It does look cool though. Might see if the rumor of a happy hour is still true. There is euro disney which has sparked my interest for later on in Paris.

Watching some Daily Show online before sleep... I think I'll be out like a light tonight.

Made it here at about 5:30am from Berlin. Caught a train and a taxi and found my hostel by 7am. No one around, but a note on the door telling people in my sitch to just chill out in the common room till reception opens... and chill I did. Im not sure why but it seems much colder here than in Berlin, even though the temperature is about the same and its not windy here!?!?! After a brief nap on the couch I checked in and havent done much else. With a cosy lounge and free laptops to use I dont think i can be bothered to do much more today.

Ill be in this hostel (out near the airport) till monday because I couldnt find anything in the city over the weekend. Hmm, better look up mondays accom now come to think of it.

Oh, projector and a movie... definitely not going anywhere now!

Ok so I spent the last three days (well two and a bit) staying with a girl I met on Couch Surfers.com. How to explain couch surfers... well i'll let thier mission statement sum it up for me:

So after hearing about it from some friends in Olympos I thought I would sign up and see if there were any cool people whom I could stay with in Amsterdam. Thats how I met Sarah. She's a medical student at the local university, living in a share house with Janet and Clayton who were really nice, friendly guys (both students too). Sarah and I only managed to go out for one night to her local (school week and all), but I had a great time chilling with... well... non backpackers if that isnt too offensive to say to my fellow colleges. I'll definitely look into other locations throughout my travels as its nice to spend time with locals.

Waiting for my bus at 8:40pm tonight to whisk me away to Berlin where I've booked three nights. Going to see Indiana's Band 'Lamplight' tomorrow night. As it happened, the hostel im going to stay at is only a few blocks from the bar/pub/non descript music venue.
Can't wait but must.

Well I've left the camp site now after getting two nights in a bed of my own (yay, no more floor). Caught up with Sam in the city the other night and had a good look around. What an insane place to be. I don't know how you could ever live here. Someone said that Richard Bransen used to live here on a house boat for a while. He is a bit crazy though so it doesnt exactly surprise me.

Going to be staying closer into the city for a few days, then off to berlin on the 8th (on an overnight bus).

Well ive made it to pirate town, i mean amsterdam. Got in at about 8pm, met a kiwi guy on the bus named sam. Dumped my bags at his hotel, then went for a walk in the red light district (aka, bat country). Ah... What can i say... Amsterdam is one crazy place. So many beautiful women so few euro. Ha ha ha. Made it out to the camp grounds but there wasnt a free bed, so i slept on the floor of my cabin for an hour or so till people left. Well im on another bus right now. Woo Hoo. Brussels in 14 hours! At least its not the longest trip ive taken. Hope you all like the photos, they are up on face book as well. I knew I would miss saying that by a few days, sorry about that (I cant even blame it on the time difference). Hope you had a great day and didnt eat too much cake... what am I saying, it was your birthday, eat as much as you want. Still in Vienna, wasting time in an internet cafe till I get my bus at 19:30. Packed a huge bag with food so I wont go hungry this trip (unless I forget the bag).

Yesterday I went out to the Palace Gardens and ended up spendign the whole day there. Fed the ducks with left over bread (nothing goes to waste for this little backpacker) then walked though the park taking some shots as I went. Such a beautiful place, i only wish the weather was as it was the day before (just a little overcast today).

Hey Ive never seen them in person before. Stood there chuckling away to myself like an idiot for about ten minutes. Kawaii.

The tigers were awesome, two cubs playing and fighting, pappa came right up to the plexi glass and my heart skipped a beat. Huge doesnt even come close to describing the size of this incredible animal. My moneys on him over the lions I saw earlier any day.

Polar bears were cool too. There were two youngins diving into the water, bobbing for apples and fighting. So cute. Then there were goats and deer and birds and insects and penguins (yawn) and fish and butterflies and LEMURS!!! Now theres an enclosure thats always good value. Crazy, wacky lemurs, always up to something (im sure mum understands).

Stayed there from 4pm till 6:30pm when i was kicked out. I could have sat watching the elephants for hours. Oh and incase your wondering, the zoos facilities were impecable. Lots of happy healthy animals. Its something that im always worried about before going to a zoo as its really sad and depressing to go to a horrible one. You know the ones that seem more like a dodgy travelling circus at the fair grounds in cows that your dragged along to see buy your girlfriend only to show her at interval why you detest the parading around of wild animals for peoples pleasure then stuffed into tiny cages at the end of the night... or something along those lines anyway (hi Sara!).

Hey now this is more like it. Today I went out fo a wander but first I had to change my bus ticket. Im cancelling Munich from my travels so far as its almost impossible to find a place to stay and when i can its 40 euros a night. Off to Brussels for a day then onto Amsterdam. Leaving in 2 days so im happy to get another day here in Vienna.

Went to the natural history museum for a few hours today. I asked the guy what the price was, he said 8 euro. I asked how much it was for a poor backpacking Australian and he said "Oh look... theres your student card... its now 3.50 euros" what a nice guy!!!! Not as impressive as the London Museum but well worth a look.

Vienna is such a beautiful city to wander through and I havent been caught not buying a metro ticket yet (fingers crossed).

Now just to keep some of you happy ive managed to get some photos off my first card to show you. The 4 gig cards wont be read by normal computers so ill have to get the cable for my camera next time i go to an internet cafe.

Ah Budapest!

Civilization! Its a nice concept and Budapest does a better job of imitating it than Bucharest (yes it is confusing having to write about both those places in the same sentence). Went for a log walk all over the city today (7 hrs infact). Spent a few hours in the Budapest Fine Arts Museum as they had an Egyptian collection on display. Standing there looking at a small figurine of Imhotep that was created 2000 years after he lived and stared at by me another 2500 years later really adds a sense of wonder to an otherwise overcast day. About to run out of internet time so I'll be quick.

Still no answer from the mystery person at eurolines im in contact with. Last thing they said was that my pass wont be post dated, but ill have a word with the london manager before screaming lawyer on that matter. Also, their computer system doesnt have any of my personal details logged on my pass number. F-ing incompetent morons. Might just have to do a little photoshopping on my pass and let that make up the 9 days i might lose.

Off to Vienna tomorrow, hostel booked this time as to save hassles. Only a 3 and a half hour trip this time, so nothing to worry about.

I found a hostel for €14 a night right in the city, but not before a bus ride that for me would be on par with having to sit though a whole test match sober, then a 5km walk and finally being hassled by 2 ugly and one cute hooker. Well i made it into hungary, but only just by the looks of it. At the boarder a guard gets on and starts to check everyones id. Looking down the isle, all i see are eu passports and romanian id's. When he gets to me im greeted with scowles and more than one look up and down. As he goes to give me my passport back, he has second thoughts, snatches it back and walks off the bus. After 10 min the bus driver brings me my id back, only to come back 2 min later and take it again. By now the notion of denied entry is swimming round my head and the prospect of having to circum navigate hungry a horrible, yet possible outcome. Finally i get it back with a stamp in it and off we go... Or so i thought. After opening all the baggage compartments on the side of the bus, boarder patrol sick the dogs on them. I guess i just have one of those trustworthy faces huh! Just wait till my day comes. Mwahahaha!!! Never too dull for old jim bob here. Shananigans... Yes i said it. Just you wait OZ!!!

15 hours on the bus so far and i think another 4 to go. If i snap and go crazy, can someone text me the translation for justifiable homicide in romanian. So many times weve had to stop for traffic. Seems like theres only one road out of this country and everyones on it. Only seen two small towns on the way that look nice... The rest? Imagine the worst parts of dandenong where commission houses meet industry meet farm land and youll have some idea what im talking about. The boarder has to be close now doesnt it? Oh and to make things even better, its been raining all day. Yay! Not sure ill find a hostel in Budapest at midnight, might have to fork out for a hotel tonight. Oh thank the lord if i thought he was real, im on the bus out of bucharest. What a miserable excuse for a city. Even the grand presidential palace needs a coat of paint. Every street you turn down looks as if it was abandoned after the cold war, only to be reoccupied last week. Id show you pictures if id taken any. Thats how depressing it is. Down town is like one street that starts with KFC and boutiqes and ends in bars, sex shops and strip clubs. Met some nice people here though. Everyone i meet gives me the same look of confusion when i tell them im from australia and promptly asks what the hell im doing here. Not about to see bucharest on getaways top 10 destinations this century. Well its 6am and i have a whole day of busing to look forward to. Better try and sleep some of it away. Take care folks. Time to party like its 1956... well no not exactly, but this place sure is odd.

Here's a transcript from yesterday:

22nd Sep 2008-

Last night was up there with one of the most confusing nights I’ve had (and considering I have a tale to rival Richies 'Story' he told on the boat, that's saying something). Abruptly from my slumber I was woken by my rather oafish conductor, to be told there’s a boarder crossing I have to get up for. Standing around there for half an hour to get my exit visa stamp, we were then ushered back onto the train. Twenty minutes later they came around to check we all had stamps then off to sleep it was... or so I thought.

Throughout the night we were woken up with random room checks as if I had managed to stow someone away in my backpack and the last three checks on my room weren't proof enough I was alone. There was even one time when boarder police came on to stamp my passport. Just like a normal boarder crossing except im in bed wearing only boxers and three police are crowding round me to check that I look like the photo in my passport. I felt like I was a prisoner being given sleep depravation torture... 'I no not of any microfilm!!!!!!!!!'

When I woke up today we were stopped in the middle of nowhere and the train seemed empty. Walking to one end to see if I could get out for a smoke I was shocked to find the rest of the train missing. Realizing that it was probably left back at the last stop I went to go to the toilet. Running into the conductor again (whom I've named Egor) he told me there was tea or coffee available. Last night I asked if I could smoke on the train and I think he wanted me to bribe him 20 euros for the privilege, I just feigned like I didn’t understand and walked away. Today he told me through the art of mime that if I wanted, I could smoke out my window. Happy with that I asked for a cup of coffee and went for a smoke. Thank you Egor for the worst cup in my entire life. At the end of the cup was some brown sludge I mistook for sugar... big mistake! The spoonful of instant coffee I ate then was about as good a meal as I was to get on that train as there wasn't even a dining car (should have looked into that earlier).

Just got busted by another conductor for smoking in my room (well I had my arm and head stuck out of the train so it wasn't technically true). This fine example of Romanian good will wanted me to give him 10 euro for smoking, but after showing him I only had 10 Turkish lira he stuck his nose up and left my room (which by this stage felt more like a cell). Then as I’m writing this down he enters again, this time demanding my cigarettes. I said 'Sure, have them' and threw over my ratty packet with four left in it. wanting to know where the rest were I said that I didn’t have any more (the truth) at which point he smiled, threw me back the packet and left. Kind of glad I didn't buy any smokes at the boarder crossing duty free now.

Waiting at 'Ruse' for what seems like an eternity. Perhaps its just the lack of food and no smoking that's dragging this out. Egors been smoking, and I can smell cigarettes further up the carriage, but don't want to push my luck for now. Almost there!!!

Yes, its over... and I've never been happier to scoff down Macas in my life (at least Micky D's always lets you use your card to pay).

Met a funny yet drunk Japanese guy and a Parisian when I got back from dinner, then hit the bed and was out.

23rd of Sep-

Tried to get my bus pass validity changed to the 25th (the date of my first trip) but the girl at the office looked at me like a dog that had been shown a card trick. Managed to get her to call the Romanian head office who said that the validity cannot be changed in Romania, but failed to elaborate from there. Sent an e-mail to the London office who will hopefully get back to me with an answer in a day or two.

Sitting here in a dingy little internet cafe located under a deli of all places, about to look up what the hell im going to do in this place for two days. Chat later, Jim.

Ive made it. After a crazy and long train trip, im here in Bucharest. I have a hostel room at €14 per night and tomorrow will go find the bus office and sort my pass out. Can i just say how cheap this place is. Smokes and a kit kat cost me €1.50 just before. Not sure if ill go on the 24th or the 28th yet. I have no idea what there is to keep me amused if i do stay here that long though. Wandered round for a while looking for a place to stay. Man that backpack is a good workout. Thank god i went mad at the gym before this is all i can say. Sitting down for some dinner now, a much deserved meal after a train ride akin to a twilight zone episode. Ok so dont get me wrong, ive loved turkey but as i sit at the station about to leave, i have a few bones to pick. Im fucking sick of paying for every little thing. They almost charge you to look at the sunset in this country. Like tonight... I have a ticket to get on the train, but i still have to pay a buck to use the train toilets. And another thing, they make you put your toilet paper in a basket, not the bowl, cause they are too cheap to build decent plumbing. Its foul and clearly unhygenic as 8 days of the trots will testify to. On the plus side, my sleeper cabin holds only 2 people (pray for a cute girl) and is quite spacious. Still another 15 min b 4 we go. Hope the boarder crossings arent a pain in the ass. Hey, as long as i make it out of turkey with all my vitals, im a happy and lucky man. Yep, today I went wızzıng round Cappadocıa on a scooter wıth Shelly, Matt and Anne, Davıd and Tracey. I havent had that much fun ın ages. Almost makes me wanna buy one when I get home.
We dıd a mıx between small dırt tracks, some off road and street rıdıng today and some of the vıews we had were amazıng. I would reccomend thıs to anyone who ıs comıng to Cappadocıa.

Not much else to say other than that. Tomorrow Ill be goıng on a bıg tour south of Goreme (where ım stayıng now) and gettıng back ın tıme to catch my overnıght bus to ıstanbul whıch leaves at 7pm.

Olympos to Egıdır to Capadocıa

On my second day ın Olympos a group of us headed down to the beach for a swım. Along the way are some amazıng ruıns of the old cıty of Olympos. I thought that we were off there for a few hours but that turned ınto the whole day. After a couple of hours lazıly splashıng ın the sea and sun, Matt and Bec, Rıchıe, Matt and Anna and I decıded to grab some lunch. Once agaın I was ımpressed wıth the calamarı (as was the other 3 who ordered the same). That nıght I went to a dısco but was sadly dıssapoınted wıth the turnout, so called ıt a relatıvely early nıght.

The 16th of sep I was off on the Fez bus agaın, thıs tıme to a place called Egıdır. Buılt around lake Egıdır, ıt was an ımpressıve sıght to behold. Lush green mountaın ranges encompass the entıre regıon and the pınacle of ıt all ıs Needle Mountaın whıch most of the town ıs ın the shadow of. I was almost tempted to stay an extra nıght just to clımb up to the lone tree pırched atop ıts gıgantıc and overwhealmıng stature.

The 17th of sep (yesterday) I was fezzıng agaın, thıs tıme to capadocıa. When I thınk of what Turkey ıs meant to look lıke (other than ın bıg cıtıes), thıs ıs what I ımagıne. A massıve rollıng landscape of wınd swept rocks that eb and flow as ıf they are slow movıng lıquıd, vast planes wıth obılısque shaped stones, and to top ıt all off ım stayıng ın a cave hostel (Shoe strıngs for those who are ınterested). After gettıng sorted last nıght I was off ınto the cıty for a quıck look around and a bıte to eat. I trıed the turkısh versıon of ravıollı and yogurt sauce but was a bıt dıssapoınted to fınd that the pasta was drownıng ın a tangy sour and cold soup.

The rest of the nıght... well thats a story for another day...week...month...decade. Turkey/my lıfe ıs one strange and random event. I should never complaın of boredom though!!!

Im here tıll the 20th where Ill be catchıng the overnıght bus to ıstanbul and perhaps jump straıght on a traın to bucharest ıf possıble. Thınkıng Ill need to fork out the extra 8 euros and get a sleeper cabın.

The Boat Cruise

From Fethiya to Olympos on a 16 person gullet. Thats what I've just spent the last 4 days doing. I think Im hooked on boats now as I could go back and do it all over again. Of course all we had to worry about was what time dinnner was as everything was taken care of by the crew. The days were broken up with a bit of swimming, then cruising, then swimming, then off to a landmark for some sightseeing, pulling into a cove for lunch and a swim, then cruising till late in the afternoon where we would pull into another cove for the night (did I mention swimming?).

Now Im in Olympos for two days while I wait for the next Fez bus to arrive. Im staying in a tree house of sorts... well I wanted one with air conditioning after the boat trip. It seems like a very hippy community at this backpackers, lots of lazy looking couches and the faint smell of shishas in the air (mmm apple shishas are great!). Once again im wasting time on the internet waiting for dinner. At least breakfast and dinner are included in the price of the dorm room I have (only 25ytl).

Sorry to be so matter of fact but as I cant really post pictures its difficult to be anything other than direct. Being really tired doesnt help either.

Well here i am in fethiya after going to Saklikent gorge. Now thats an impressive place. Lots of great photos from there. After riding an inner tube down the river (icy icy water!!) i had some very nice calamari then went for a walk through the gorge. The view of the cliffs, the water carved rocks and the water you have to wade through at the begining are all quite breathtaking. Tomorrow im off on my boat cruise so it will be an early night for me. I dont know if ill get any reception out at sea so this may be my last message for a few days. So rhodes wasnt meant to be. I went to marmaris yesterday only to find that it would cost €75 to go one day and come back the next. It was €50 for a same day trip but with no hostels this could have cost even more, so back to koycegiz i went. Today i decided to go on a boat cruise, and at only 15 lira how could i say no? In fact im on the boat right now. First we went to the mud bath from the other night, then had a free lunch, then off to turtle beach for a swim. Now we are heading back via another mud bath. Cool!... Well icky, but relaxing. Tomorrow im back on the bus to go tubing down a gorge then on to Fethiya where im going on a 4 day boat cruise Ah what a hard life. Kusadasi to Koycegiz

Yesterday I was off on the fez bus to Koycegiz (dont try to pronounce it). First we stopped off at a leather manufacturer to be treated to a fashion show before they tried to get us to buy jackets. I would have been tempted if they weren't 500 euro's or if it wasn't 35 deg every day.

Next stop was a traditional turkish pottery place where we were shown how they make and paint the items for sale. Strangely this is the first time i've been sad that i cant buy souveniers as thier hitite (spelling????) pieces were amazing.

After that it was meant to be a short bus trip to a waterfall and lagoon to cool off for the early arvo but the bus had other ideas. We broke down for almost an hour on some random highway in the middle of turkey. Only after relinquishing every spare bottle of water onboard were we able to take off without the thing overheating.

The waterfall... was meant to be relaxing but as a few of us decided to jump off a 20m cliff into the pool it was more about seeing my life flash before my eyes in the 5 sec it took me to hit the water. So not relaxing... but heaps of fun.

Then when we got to Koycegiz last night it was a quick change and meal before 9.30pm when some of us headed out on a boat to go swimming in a mud bath. Strangely this was very reniniscent of walking though the mud flats at low tide at our home on Phillip Island. After a while we all then jumped into the lake to wash off' then into the hot spring to relax... well I would have except my sunburnt shoulders wanted nothing to do with the hot spring. Once back on the boat (about half way back across the lake) we anchored down for a while so we could go night swimming. It was so relaxing just floating in the pitch black water with the boat off to the side, looking up at the night sky. I haven't seen the starts that clearly in years!

Today Im off to Rhodes to take a look around for the night.

Ladıes Beach and Adaland

I thought that today I would get a sleep ın but a feral cat dropped her kıttens down a space between my room and the staırs so I was woken to ıncessent mewıng and then a not so happy mum when I went close to them.

Once up I headed off to Ladıes Beach. Its so named because durıng the week most husbands head off ınto the cıty to work and the housewıfes spend most of thıer tıme at the beach. Unfortunately the realıty was much dıfferent. It really should have been called Roast Beef beach as that was more accurate. Every second pub had a sandwıch board outsıde dısplayıng what tıme they were showıng the football whıch I thınk confused the poms natural predelıctıon to stay ın thıer local habıtat. Lıke sonar locatıon beaches whales, so does the pıe, chıps and footy to the overweıght englısh.

Fed up wıth that and the naggıng feelıng my bag was ın danger of beıng pılfered, I went to Adaland. Nothıng better than spendıng a 35 deg day at a water park. Adaland was awesome, wıth a few slıdes bıg enough to scare the pants off me (not lıtteraly thank god). The wave pool had a bıgger swell than ladıes beach and at 3pm there was a wet dance floor to party on. Nothın better than dancıng wıth bıkını clad gırls whıle a thumpıng bass ıs backed up by jets of water ın the ground lıke the fountaıns at Crown Casıno. Cool!

Epesus to Kasadası

Last nıght I stayed ın Selcuk but as they had no rooms I had to stay ın a twın wıth a gırl from Adelaıde (Hı Zoe!). Thankfully I dıdnt have to pay anymore and lıke most places breakfast was ıncluded.

Today I caught a shuttle bus to Ephesus where once agaın I was walkıng through ancıent greek and roman ruıns. Good thıng Im fascınated by them! They even had an audıo guıde so ı bought that and wandered about for a few hours.

You should see the toılets that the romans buılt back then. Its somethıng we all take for granted (tıll you have to squat ın a turkısh or japanese toılet), but to thınk that they buılt them about 1800 years ago ıs ıncredıble. ımagıne a large room wıth a marble bench on three sıdes and holes for you to sıt down on, then at your feet ıs a flowıng channel for you to wash your sponge ın whıle water ıs constantly flowıng beneath your seat to flush away the unwanted.

They also had a theatre there wıth a 25000 seat capacıty. How cool ıs that. I do however thınk that the theatre ın pergamum ıs more ımpressıve.

So it was off to troy and pergamum today doing a tour of both ancient sites. Unlike what some have told me, troy was fascinating. To think that parts were erected before the pyramids is amazing. Pergamum has castle ruins on top of a mountain in Bergama with an orical temple to apollo atop. This look as if it should be in greece as it was built by the greeks. now its off to selcuk where ill spend the night and travel to ephesus tomorrow, then onto kusadasi for two days of swimming and relaxing. Been spending a bit too much money though, at about 50 euro a day. This is cause of all the extra traveling and tours ive been on. Hoping to spend less over the next few days as these arent a factor. the days have been beautiful and im working up a tan (yes, still using sun screen nan). Taking heaps of photos too (2 gig so far). Turkey so Far

Yesterday was amazıng. I walked all round Istanbul takıng photos and eatıng kebabs (guts stıll fıne-woo hoo!!!). The Blue mosque was jaw droppıng and my hostels roof had a vıew of both the blue and sofıa mosques on one sıde and the bosforous channel on the other. I took a ferry rıde up the bosforous yesterday as well. It was so worth waıtıng around for an hour (patıently eatıng turkısh delıght).

Today I was up very early to go to Gallıpolı. Theres three thıngs ıve taken away from the experıence. One ıs that I had no ıdea how beautıful the area was. I just wanted to sıt on the beach and go for a swım. Two the dıstance from anzac cove to lone pıne ıs unbelıevable, and the terraın they would have had to traverse was horrıble. Its not untıll you see ıt for yourself that you can aprecıate some of what they had to go through. Now thırdly ıs a sad note (not that the place wasnt grım enough) because ı couldnt fınd my great uncle at lone pıne. I had the correct placement - K 15 but theres no markıngs. I even had two guys try and help me but alas no luck.

Istanbul

So here I am alıve and well. Its been a long day but ım glad to be settled ın at my hostel. Istanbul sure ıs confusıng to get around though. It took me ages to fıgure out how to get here. Thankfully anyone who spoke englısh was more than helpful ın dırectıng me to the rıght area.

As luck would have ıt, the hostel (orıent hostel) ıs rıght next to the fez bus offıce where I need to be on wednesday to catch my tour bus (what are the odds!!!).

Tonıght I took a quıck look around my area. A walk up to the nıght market and the blue mosque was about as adventurous as I was goıng to get (who would have thought 10hrs ın transıt would make you tıred!?!?!). After gettıng back I sat down, smoked a shısha wıth apple tobacco ın ıt and relaxed. That relaxed feelıng only lasted for 20 mın as I moved a shısha off the table to take a group photo for some people and happened to break ıt. It wasnt my fault though... no really, the bottom fell out of ıt when ı pıcked ıt up!!! Well ıt wouldnt be me ıf somethıng stupıd lıke thıs dıdnt happen on my fırst day. Thankfully the people at the bar were all cool about ıt.

Anyway, tomorrow ı,ll head off and explore some of ıstanbul and get ready for a 6am start the day after... at least I only have to walk next door!!!

Ok, so I've made it to Luton and am waiting for my flight in an hour. The hotel was nice and I got enough sleep to be awake at 6:45, although with all the excitement I think 30 min of sleep would have done.

Burger King Luton take off your crown and bow for you have made my number one spot for worst fast food venue worldwide. I sure hope its just has hard to come back up as it was to get down. In the spirit of having NO money to waste and therefore no food to waste either I ate the whole damn thing. Eghghghghghghgh!!!!!!!! It's made me look forward to the inflight meal... can you believe it!?!?!

Here's what I've been up to so far:

A few weeks ago I caught up with Ilisa (one of my first housemates when I moved to Ballarat) and had coffee. She's been over here for a few months teaching english but we only just realized that we are both here. Its strange to think of how much time has past between when we first met and last week, but it felt just like yesterday to the pair of us.

I also got to see Jane (Rob and El's Mum) a week ago when we went to the Globe theatre together. What can I say but 'Awesome'! From the outside it looks more like an Amish barn than anything else, yet once inside you can see just how this theatre (or at least the original one) became so popular. I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking:

Yes its open topped and yes I did get rained on for a brief time. In the souvenier shop they sell you rain coats just incase.
The play we went to see was 'The Merry Wifes of Windsor'. I hadn't read or seen this one before but I highly recommend it. Its a great comedy about an old poor knight who attempts to woo two wives in order to aquire thier husbands money. The women find out of his plot and lead him on to exact revenge. Unfortunately one of the husbands hears of the knights intentions, becomes insanely jealous and tries to catch his wife and the knight in the act.

Yes they even remade the thatched roof. 'No smoking please!!!'

On the 9th was my Mums Birthday and we went out to the OXO Tower restaurant. Other than the food being amazing in quality and price, it has one of the best views in all of London.

Yes today marks two weeks until I'm off on my backpacking holiday. On sunday the 30th I'll be getting a train to Luton where I'm staying in a hotel for the night. As my mum booked a weekend away to Brighton for the same weekend and feels guilty, she has graciously paid for my hotel (the ONLY one i'll stay in on my journey though). So not this Saturday coming, but the next is my last day of work. Turkey, here I come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
